These are double walled weavings using waxed linen. The inner wall is a basic twined geometric pattern using two weavers (one black, one natural). The outer wall is woven with 4 weavers, a pair of black and a pair of white, alternating to create the patterns. The inner layer is woven without a form, but temporary stays are used to support the outer layer during its weaving. Weaving these, especially the outer layers, is remarkably tedious, but the patterns that slowly emerge are addicting. I do start these with a general plan, but they evolve during construction. And the finished work is always a surprise. (rv)
